Obituary
STOCKTON.—Brother J. S. Stockton is dead. He died near Honey Grove, Texas, March 29, 1905. Brother Stockton was born in Tippah County, Mississippi, November 28, 1846; professed religion in early life; joined the M. E. Church, South, at old New Hope Church in Grant County, Arkansas, and moved to Texas in 1893. Brother Stockton was a good and true man. I was his pastor for some years. He loved God and loved the Church and was a good friend of the preachers. As a Christian Brother, Stockton was as true as steel and always maintained his fidelity to God and the Church. He was a fine character a man of more than an ordinary intellect. Although he was poor in this world's goods, yet he was rich in gospel grace. As a husband and father he was kind and indulgent. His wife and children will sorely miss him. As a citizen he was honest, good and law-abiding. As a neighbor he had a heart to encompass the whole world of mankind, generous and charitable to all men. Brother Stockton divided his living with his preacher and also with the cause of missions, and in attestation of his fidelity to Christ and to the Church in the old neighborhood where he once lived a wonderful concourse of people where present at his funeral at old Hickory Grove Cemetery. I feel like I want to approach with soft foot fall and lay one flower upon the grave of this humble servant of God. I feel satisfied that Brother Stockton is at rest in heaven. May the all sustaining grace of God rest upon his dear wife and children and his brothers and sister who are on their way to heaven. Farewell, brother, but not forever; we will meet again in that land where goodbyes will never be heard and where farewells are unknown.

Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God, in His wise providence to remove our beloved sister and co-worker, who passed from death unto life on the night of May 6th, 1888.
Therefore be it resolved: - 1st That by the death of sister Stockton, the church has lost one of her best workers, the Sunday School, one of its most faithful members, and the community one whose every day walk and conversation proved her a pure and faithful follow of Jesus.
2nd - That while we deeply deplore our sister's death and mourn her loss, we feel that the Lord who was the giver of that pure and noble spirit, has but taken back that which was his own, and we bow in humble submission to his holy will.
3rd - That we truly sympathize with the family in their bereavement, and pray that the Lord will bless the husband who mourns for a dear loved wife, and the children and prepare them to meet the loved one in the "sweet bye and bye."
4th - That a copy of these resolutions be presented the Headlight, with a request that the Pine Bluff District Herald and The Arkansas Methodist will publish the same, also a

Obituary
The subject of this sketch, R. R. Stockton, was born in Grant County, Arkansas, on September 21, 1862; and died January 23, 1928, at his home, 2800 Avenue F, Forth Worth, Texas. He was married on March 24, 1895, to Miss Mattie Stockton. To this union was born five children, four of whom are living. Those who survive him are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Stockton and his children; Richard 0. Eula Mae, Ruth and J. C.
He had three brothers and two sisters to wit; V. V. Stockton of Gardena, Calif.; A. L. Stockton of Fort Worth, Texas; J. S. Stockton of Cisco, Texas; Mrs. W. A. Gentry of Carbon, Texas, and Mrs. F. W. Smith of Cisco, Texas. All were present at the funeral services except V. V. Stockton of Gardena, California.
Stockton moved to Oklahoma in 1900 where he lived six years. He served four year there as Deputy United States Marshal, after which he came 'to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1907. Since that time he has followed contracting and building.
Brother Stockton professed religion and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, about twenty-four years ago and has lived a faithful and consistent life as a member up to the time of his death.
Upon coming to Fort Worth he united with the Polytechnic Methodist Church remaining a member until the day of his death, it was from this church that his funeral services were held. Stockton became a member of the Masonic Lodge A. F. and A.M. while in Oklahoma and upon; movie to Fort Worth he joined the Polytechnic Masonic Lodge, being a member at the time of his death. Under Masonic auspices he was buried on the twenty-fifth day of January in the year 1928, in the Greenwood Cemetery at Fort Worth, Texas, in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends, and a profusion of beautiful flowers to await the Resurrection morning.
R. F. 2tockton numbered his friends by the score as was evidenced by the great number of cards and letters containing loving words of sympathy and consolation received, by his family since his death.
To the sorrowing ones we would say not to grieve after him as those who have no hope; but try to live so that when your time comes to go you will have an unbroken family circle in that Home above, where there will be no more sorrowing or suffering; but all will be joy and peace, is we have good reasons to believe that Brother Stockton heard the welcome applause, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou halt been faithful over a few things,' I will make you Ruler over many things."
As it wasn't the privilege of the writer to be present at the funeral services I very cordially of R. R. Stockton.
Written by a brother-in-law and a long time friend,
